The collège in Mauritania (1AS to 4AS) and the BEPC
The collège is the first cycle of Mauritanian secondary education. It lasts four years, from 1AS to 4AS, and ends with the BEPC (Brevet d'études du premier cycle), before the lycée.

From 1AS to 4AS
Pupils enter 1AS after the fundamental-cycle exam. The four years of the collège prepare them both for the BEPC and for the lycée, where subjects specialise by stream.
The BEPC
The BEPC marks the end of the collège, in 4AS. Dates, papers and results are set and published by the Ministry: check its official announcements rather than unverified sources.
Getting ready for what comes next
- Consolidate mathematics, Arabic and French, which are used in every lycée stream.
- Redo textbook exercises, noting what blocks you, then ask a teacher or a tutor about those points.
BacMR and the collège: what is covered today
BacMR was built first for the lycée. To date, collège textbooks are not yet part of the library BacMR relies on, which is based on the 7AS books and some 6AS books. The grades 1AS to 4AS exist in the BacMR profile, but we do not present BacMR as covering the collège curriculum or BEPC preparation.
A collège student can still ask questions: when they fall outside the available textbooks, BacMR says so instead of guessing. More advanced students can also see how ideas continue in the lycée.
Free to start, on any phone or computer.
