Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
BacMR ("we", "our") provides an AI tutoring service for students preparing for the Mauritanian Baccalaureate. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have — including for accounts used by minors.
Information we collect
When you create an account we collect your full name, email address, role (student, teacher, or parent), and your grade level and academic track. While you use the tutor, we store the conversations and messages you exchange with the AI so you can resume a discussion and so we can improve answer quality.
Sign-up and sign-in records
When you create an account we record the IP address it was created from, an approximate location derived from that address (country, region, city and network operator), the device and browser or app you used, and how you signed up (for example with Google). The location is looked up on our own servers in an offline DB-IP database, so your address is not sent to anyone for this. Each time you sign in we record the IP address, approximate location, device and app, at most once an hour per address. We use these records only for security and to prevent abuse, such as fake or automated accounts. Sign-in records are deleted after 180 days; the sign-up record is kept while your account exists. Both are deleted with your account.
How we use your information
We use this information to operate your account, generate tutoring responses grounded in the Mauritanian curriculum, track your credit balance and usage, and to communicate with you about your account. We do not sell your personal data.
Voice notes
You can dictate a question with the microphone (up to 2 minutes). The recording is sent through our servers to OpenAI's speech-to-text service, only to turn your speech into text. We do not keep the recording: it is held in memory while it is transcribed and is never written to our storage or our logs. The text appears in your message box so you can correct it, and it is saved only if you send it, as part of your conversation.
Photos and PDF files
You can attach a photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 8 MB) or a PDF (up to 10 pages) of an exercise. We do not keep the file: it is processed in memory, its text is copied into your message box, and that text is saved only if you send it. A PDF that already contains text is read on our own servers. A photo or a scanned page is sent to OpenAI to read its text, and a photo also goes through an automated safety check.
Signing in with Google
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google sends our sign-in service (which we run ourselves) your name, your email address, whether Google has verified that address, and an identifier for your Google account so we can recognise you next time. We use your name and email address to create and run your BacMR account. We do not receive your Google password and we have no access to your contacts, emails, files or any other Google data.
AI processing by third-party providers
To answer you, the content of your request is processed by third-party AI providers through our own AI gateway: OpenAI (answers, voice transcription, reading photos, safety checks, and matching your question to textbook pages), Google (Gemini, as a backup when the main answer model is unavailable), and Cohere and Voyage AI (ranking textbook passages for your question). They receive your question, the recent messages of the conversation needed for context, and the text of your voice note or attachment, never your name or email address. Each provider processes this content under its own terms for business API customers. Our gateway records usage (model, token counts, cost) for billing, without the content of your messages.
Minors
BacMR is used by secondary school students, some of whom are minors. Parents and teachers can also hold accounts to support a student's preparation. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a minor has provided us personal data without appropriate consent, contact us using the details below.
Storage and security
Your data is stored on servers operated for BacMR and protected with industry-standard access controls. This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and serves its fonts from our own servers. Your browser keeps a few items locally: your language, theme and sidebar choices and, once you sign in to the app, your session. The full list, with a button to clear your preferences, is under “Storage preferences” at the bottom of every page.
Sharing
We do not share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Conversation content may be processed by our AI infrastructure providers solely to generate your tutoring responses.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and conversation data for as long as your account is active. Sign-in records are deleted after 180 days. If you delete your account, your data is erased as described on the account deletion page, which also lists the few records we keep and for how long.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile, then Settings, then “Delete my account”), on the web, or without the app by emailing support@bacmr.com. Any remaining credit balance is forfeited and cannot be refunded, and deletion cannot be undone.
How to delete your account, and what is deleted →Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To exercise these rights, use the account deletion page above or contact us using the details below.
